Going Green

Green at Summit Initiatives

Adobe Digital Marketing Summit is striving to be more eco-friendly. Here are ways the Summit team and its partners are working to keep Summit green:

Venue - Salt Palace Convention Center

As we strive to reduce, reuse, and recycle, we believe that by carefully considering the environmental impact of all of our business decisions before we make them, we have been able to shrink our ecological footprint and will continue to do so. In addition, the Salt Palace Convention Center is diligently seeking the newest technology in environmental care practices in order to incorporate them into our daily operations.

Marriott International:

Marriott is the first hospitality management company to join the EPA's Climate Leaders program and is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by nearly one-fifth over the ten-year period from 2000-2010 - approaching one million tons of climate warming cases.

Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown:

We consult with the Recycling Coalition of Utah and reference their recycling guide for some areas of the hotel, i.e. computer/electronics recycling, wood pallet recycling.

Systems & Evaluation

Marriott International: Marriott's Environmentally Conscious Hospitality Operations program (ECHO) focuses on water and energy conservation, clean air initiatives, wildlife preservation, "reduce-reuse-recycle" waste management, and clean-up campaigns.

Communications

In-hotel communications procedures encourage associates to save energy and be environmentally aware.

A computerized tracking system called Guestware identifies repair priorities so leaking toilets/showers and faucets can be repaired quickly, reducing water usage.

External Partnerships

Marriott's ‘Spirit To Serve our Communities Day’ is an annual event in Salt Lake. In 2007 the hotel associates participated in planting over 700 trees as well as plants and vegetables at the Jordan River Ecological Restoration Project and the Rose Park Ecological Garden in the Salt Lake City area.

The hotel provides bike racks and locker rooms for changing, to encourage associates to ride bikes to and from work.

We provide associates subsidized light rail monthly passes (50% paid by hotel) to encourage use of mass transit.

  • By conserving energy, our hotels around the world are on track to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 1 million tons over 10 years - 2000 to 2010. That's equivalent to taking 140,000 cars off the road.
  • We've decreased our energy use and saved 65% on our hotel lighting costs by replacing 450,000 light bulbs with fluorescent lighting since 2006.
  • Marriott received the 2007 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for three years of outstanding performance and has earned more ENERGY STAR labels (245) than any other hotel company.
  • We're reduced our hot water usage by 10% by replacing 400,000 shower heads.
  • We've conserved water, use of detergents and saved energy on hot water by encouraging guests to reuse their linens and towels during their hotels stays.
  • Marriott also pitched in on volunteer clean-up projects in our communities through Clean Up the World, a global environmental organization.
